We seek out owners that are proud of their home from home and each are lovingly furnished in styles that vary from contemporary to classic, vibrant to traditional…and above all they are personal! Our homes are as unique as the Dingle Peninsula itself! Ok, we admit the weather on the Dingle Peninsula can only be described as temperamental, but, these are the words the YNA team use to describe this rather special part of the world. Wild, rugged, untamed, awe inspiring, fun, romantic, spectacular scenery, brimming with personality…a must destination!
In the words of STAY YNA Dingle Director Clodagh Edwards
“On a sunny day it’s the most beautiful place in the world and there is no where I’d rather be.”
Vibrant is the other word we use to describe the area. Locals have a real passion for life and it’s no wonder. The outdoors with it’s epic landscape, the indoors with its artisan shops, bistros and of course pubs that are unique to the area (if you’ve never had a pint whilst sitting in a hardware shop you haven’t lived!) and of course the celebrations. Dingle folk sure know how to hold a festival/ fayre/ party of some kind…and there are a lot of them!
Head to Brandon Bay, for sweeping stretches of golden sandy beaches, great for kids and taking long walks. The Maharees, home to Castlegregory is the best water sports destination and a mecca for wind surfing. The cute harbour at Brandon pier has to be experienced for the views, don’t miss out on crab sandwiches and a pint of Guinness at Murphy’s bar! It’s a hotspot in the summer months and kids dive off the pier and you can fish for mackerel.
The west side of the Peninsula has a more rugged landscape, interspersed with charming sandy coves and bays and the Irish language is alive and openly spoken. The Blasket Islands are a sight to behold and were featured not only in Ryan’s daughter, but, in the final epic scene of the latest Star Wars movie where we see Luke Skywalker in hiding.
It’s no wonder that the Dingle Peninsula is an important part of the famous coastal route ‘The Wild Atlantic Way’ that takes in the stunning coastline of west Ireland.
Dingle Town can only be described as a ‘one off’. There is nowhere in the world like this colourful eclectic hub of activity. It’s a very artistic and surprisingly multicultural community, so alongside traditional and some very quirky pubs there are cute boutique artisan clothes, crafts and food shops, There are a really high standard of restaurants as well from bistros, traditional seafood restaurants and a rather good pizzeria.
Festivals and general celebrations are a big part of life on the Dingle Peninsula. From the carnival atmosphere of the music festival Féile na Bealtaine, to the Dingle International film festival, the much publicised ‘Other Voice’ contemporary music festival to the yummy Dingle Food festival showcasing the finest artisan produce in the region. Even our own YNA Dingle Cottages Director holds an annual family friendly festival with great bands and performances in her back garden aptly names ‘Backyard Boogie’!
That leads us finally into the best part of the Dingle Peninsula… the people who live here. From locals whose families can be traced back generations, to those that have retraced their roots and rediscovered home, to those who stumbled across the area on their travels and never left…. and we can’t forget he most famous local, Funghi the dolphin whose home is Dingle Bay. The locals all have a passion and respect for this very special region of the world and love sharing their home with visitors. …and of course the craic is not bad either.
Our very special cottages in Dingle are carefully chosen with relaxed, spacious, boutique and above all unique style spaces in some of the most sought after locations on the Dingle Peninsula.
