It’s been a hard-past couple of months, but we are almost at the light of the end of the tunnel. Life as we know it is slowly getting back to some kind of ‘new normal,’ with travel restrictions being lifted and of course, the news we had all been waiting for… Pubs in Ireland were finally allowed to reopen from 20th July… well sort of! Only pubs that also serve food could open… that is still music to my years if you ask me.

Ireland is of course known for its many pubs with over 7000 of them, but there is one little town in particular that is known for its array of traditional Irish pubs. Dingle of course! The town alone is the proud home to over 50 pubs and did you know?!? There is one pub for every 40 locals!

The small Harbour town of Dingle, on the beautiful Wild Atlantic way, has fast become a staycation paradise this year. The pubs come alive during the summer season, usually jam packed with tourists and locals but it will be different this year with social distancing measures in place and only pubs serving food can open. So, if you’re visiting, we’ve rounded up of our favourite pubs that you will not want to miss out on.

The Dingle pub – There isn’t a chance you’ll miss this one walking through the main street in Dingle town, with its traditional white and shamrock green façade on its exterior. The pub is a very lively family run business. Usually during the summer season, it becomes Dingles most electric environment with live music and entertainment 7 days a week from trad sessions and Irish ballads as well as performances from the famous 5x world champion dancer and Broadway star, David Geaney! They also serve up delicious, classic pub grub and some of the best Guinness in town. According to one diner, the ‘Chewbacca’ burger is the one to try.

Paul Geaney’s – Owned by the GAA Kerry star that is Paul Geaney. When he’s not kicking the ball, he’s pulling pints in his family run bar and restaurant! Paul Geaney’s is ideally located on Main Street in the heart of Dingle town. The bar is known for serving up hearty wholesome pub grub and classic craft beers. During the sports seasons the bar comes alive with a vibrant atmosphere and did we mention they pour the best cocktails on the Dingle peninsula?!? Perfect for an after-dinner drink or early evening drink! I recommend trying the Dingle Bay scampi – delicious!

Owned by a well-known traditional Irish musician –Eilis Moriarty, when she isn’t travelling the world performing, she’s in the kitchen with the rest of her team! Normally this pub is one of the finest venues on the Peninsula for music, song and dance. The pub serves food all day with a great selection of seafood and other dishes. Their muscles are among some of the best in town.
