If you’ve ever wanted to solo travel a European City break then do it. Don’t even think about it, just book it. What’s stopping you? Learn to enjoy your own company and step outside your comfort zone for once. Do it while you’re young…heck do it at any age!! There really is no time like the present. And by the end of it, you’ll be so surprised at how much more independent you’ve become and you never know, you may end up doing more things by yourself.

One of the benefits of solo travel is If you have limited time in an exciting new place, few things are more annoying than being dragged to the beach when you’d rather be taking in all the cultural sites. Travelling by yourself allows you to make your own agenda – not only with your interests but your routines too. For example, if you’re an early riser like me, you can plan an action-pack morning – grabbing a coffee and of course a pain au chocolat from the local Boulangerie and afterwards head down to the local flower markets on the Cours Saleya, without someone else grumbling that they just want to go back to sleep and stay in bed. Or, if you’re a night owl, you can dance the night away in bars without your travel companion complaining that they’re tired.

Feeling safe!

Now, I know being a 22 year old in a European city on your own can be quite daunting but book yourself an apartment in a safe and gated apartment complex. I was lucky enough to stay in our beautiful ‘Brigitte’ apartment. It’s in the heart of the Old town but still away from the hustle and bustle so you can get a peaceful night’s sleep. Did I mention, it has A/C?! which is a must in the French Riviera heat and there is also, not one, but THREE balconies, so you can sit and enjoy a glass of our prosecco (included in our welcome pack) on the balcony before heading out for dinner.

Eating and drinking

One of the best things about solo travel is that YOU get to make the rules. There’s no arguments with friends on where to eat or where to drink. Now I know dining alone is a fear to many and known as ‘solomangarephobia.” I was once that person too and would always be paranoid that others would be looking at me and thinking ‘who’s that weirdo over there sitting by themselves in public?’ But trust me, no one is looking at you thinking that! You probably won’t be the only person doing the same. Why not grab your laptop with you or sit and read your book while you wait for your food. Take some time away from being on your phone and social media.

Get lost in the Old town

Go down those side streets, visit the local shops, boulangerie’s, markets, meet some locals and do whatever else your heart desires. And by the end of it, I’m sure you would have found your way around Nice Old town, it’s really not as scary as you may think. There are plenty of markets to enjoy during your time in Nice. My favourite was the Flower market on every morning except for Mondays. the gorgeous flower bouquets of pampass grass are to die for! The Antiques market on a Monday is also a must visit.

A stop off in a beautiful Village

Get bus 100 from just around the corner from the Port of Nice and take in the views on the journey there as you head to Villefranche-sur-mer. You can get dropped off at the top of the hill before you hit the Old town and make your way through, exploring, before heading to the beach. There is an amazing beach club which is the only one in this village called ‘Les Bains de la Plage’ which offer refreshing cocktails and a perfect lunch spot. Top tip: you must try there Caesar salad, it’s quite possibly the best salad I’ve ever tasted!

If you feel that burning desire to break free and experience new things  – then solo travel might be just the ticket. It may sound cliche, but travelling by yourself, and being open and friendly, gives you the chance to discover who you really are.
