On a small private island, just off the Wild Atlantic Way, on the truly beautiful Caragh Lake, with fabulous views of the water and surrounded by the McGillicuddy mountains is the luxurious Salmon House, one of only two homes on Madam’s Island.
This is the ideal place to get away from it all, surrounded by the lake, oak trees and fields of sheep, Salmon house has beauty, peace and tranquility. Take a walk to the end of the garden and follow the short path down to your own personal slipway on the lake. This place is in the centre of the Reeks District, an area of outstanding beauty with lots of outdoor activities on your doorstep. Fancy a bit of stand up paddle boarding, kayaking or hiking, this is the ideal location. It’s perfect in the summer for eating outside overlooking the lake or cosy in the winter with a real fire lit and snuggling into the cosy couches. Enjoy the drive along the lake before arriving at your house, surrounded by the McGillycuddy Reeks, including the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil, making for dramatic views all around..

For larger family gatherings and group getaways, we can also accommodate a further 7 guests at Acorn Cottage, the equally luxurious sister property a short walk down the lane

Living Area
There is a luxurious living room with views of the lake on two sides, it is spacious yet cosy with a real fire to warm you on those winter days, it has a large L shaped couch and armchairs to sink into and relax. It opens onto a lovely dining space with an elegant dining table and views out the patio door to the lake, slide open the door to let the sound of the lake in. Step out onto the flagstone patio and there is a large wooden table and chairs perfect for outdoor dining, an aperitif or glass of wine. There is an outdoor fireplace here that can be lit to keep you warm as you savour the outdoors.
There is a separate but adjoining kitchen that is fully equipped - perfect for preparing those delicious meals; and offers additional seating for breakfast or that quick cup of tea before heading back out onto the water.
Outside space
The dining area opens out onto a stone-clad patio with outdoor fireplace and kettle BBQ, so whatever the time of year, it’s the ideal setting for long lazy lunches with friends or a relaxing time looking out on the lake.
Bedrooms
This house sleeps seven very comfortably, it has three bedrooms. The first bedroom has a double and a single and a bathroom ensuite. The second bedroom has two large singles and a separate bathroom. The third, the master bedroom has a California King Size bed (extra long for the very tall) and a large bathroom. The master bedroom has lots of space and a wonderful view of the lake. The beds are cosy and comfortable with goose down quilts, cotton bedding and luxurious mattresses.
Bathrooms
There are three bathrooms in this home, bedroom one has an ensuite with a shower. Bedroom two has a separate bathroom with a bath/shower. Bedroom 3, the master, has a large bathroom with a bath/shower.
Location
The cute village of Glenbeigh is nine minutes drive away, it has the fantastic Emilie’s, a bakery with great bread and cakes and a restaurant that has the most delicious sourdough pizzas as well as lots of other great food. Glenbeigh also has a lively pub and two hotels that are great for eating and drinking. There is also a shop for all your groceries and a great butcher’s counter.
There are also exceptionally good restaurants in Killorglin, including Gionvanellis, an Italian with a Michelin Bib Gourmand and the new Kingdom 1795 which is on its way to Michelin recognition. Killorglin also has a great fresh fish shop and delicatessen with local artisan foods
This is a fantastic location to tour the breathtaking scenery of the Ring of Kerry route around the Iveragh Peninsula, or head over to the Dingle peninsula and take the Slea Head drive. If you want to get active try the big 5 guided adventures of the Reeks district, climb Ireland’s highest mountain, kayak the length of Caragh Lake, Surf Inch Beach, cycle the Ring of the Reeks or stand up paddle board on Cloon Lake.
