Blue Door is a charming village house combining original features with modern style. Located at the heart of the picturesque village of Lefkara it has a spacious living room, separate kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. An upstairs balcony is the perfect spot for a relaxing evening in this tranquil haven.

Traditionally, village people keep their front doors open so they can watch the world go by in the cobbled streets. If you wish to continue this tradition, the separate dining area can open up ensuring a cool stream of mountain air and making sure you don’t miss out on the local action! The dining table can seat 4 and also expands to seat up to 8 guests.

 Living Space

The living space is divided into two areas with a sofa overlooking the external stairs and and a small desk for working or using laptops (a huge plus for teenage children!), the house offers free Wi-Fi. The second area provides a cosy corner around the fireplace and flat screen TV; ideal for chilling out. This sofa also transforms into a bed creating a separate space for additional guests. The exposed stone walls and wooden-beamed ceiling are a theme throughout, but the whole space is full of light and the owner has furnished it with a funky blend of old and new. The stone walls of this historic building keep it beautifully cool in summer and snug in winter, but there is also a fireplace as well as air-conditioning/heating to keep you comfortable on hot summer days and fresh winter nights!

Blue Door has one double and one twin room on the first floor. Both beds have a white linen canopy draped from the wood-beamed ceiling, there is a wooden wardrobe in the double room. The rooms have connecting doors making this an ideal choice for parents travelling with young children. The twin beds can also be pushed together. Both bedrooms have air-conditioning and open onto the balcony. The rooms lead onto an internal corridor which leads to the bathroom, and a wardrobe for the twin room.

This house dates from the 19th century and is built in traditional style. The bedrooms on the first floor and the balcony are accessible from the outside staircase in the entrance courtyard.

A sofa bed in the living room can sleep an additional two people. (If you wish to use the extra sleeping space in the living room, please note there is an additional cost for sofa bed linen and towels which can be purchased when you book this property)

A comfortable family bathroom with bath tub and overhead shower serves the two bedrooms. There is an additional shower room on the ground floor, ideal for guests or if you wish to make use of the sofa bed in the living room. Both bathrooms have been attractively designed in contemporary style with tiles that mirror the traditional features in the house.

Outside Space

The main entrance to the house is from the cobbled street and leads directly into the dining area. A second entrance leads into a paved area and an external staircase leading to the balcony. Access to the bedrooms and family bathroom is from this balcony. There is also plenty of space for a table and chairs, making this the ideal spot for a typical Cypriot breakfast or al-fresco supper.

If you  wish to have a pool, then the Blue Door and neighbouring Red Door can also be booked together to accommodate larger parties.

Lefkara is arguably the most famous village in Cyprus. This picturesque village is located on the Southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains in the Larnaca district. Made up of two separate districts Pano and Kato Lefkara, today there are around 1100 inhabitants.

During the Venetian period, Lefkara was a popular holiday destination for the nobles and visitors to the village today will notice the Venetian-influenced architecture of the houses and narrow cobbled streets. Lefkara is best known for its silver filigree and lace making and in fact “Lefkaritika” lace work features on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. As the story goes, Leonardo Da Vinci visited the village during the Venetian period and was so impressed by the lace work that he bought a large piece of it which he eventually donated as an altar cloth to Milan Cathedrall.

Other famous visitors include the Apostles Paul and Barnabas who passed through the village en-route to Paphos where they converted the Roman Governor to Christianity. At the spot where they are believed to have stopped to rest a water spring appeared which can still be seen today.

Modern-day visitors can visit the spring, as well as the impressive Church of the Holy Cross and a medieval chapel built into the walls of what is now a hotel! The ladies of Lefkara still sit outside their homes working on their lace-work and there is also a workshop making traditional silverware. The village is home as well to a family business that has produced award-winning “loukoumi” or Cyprus Delight for generations!

Walkers and cyclist are spoiled for choice with some great trails in the area and everyone will enjoy exploring the winding cobbled alleys at the heart of the village. There are a number of traditional coffee shops and taverns in the village and in recent years some funky little cafes and bars that attract a younger crowd. There are small supermarkets, a pharmacy and ATM’s in the village as well as doctors, dentists and hairdressers. A ten-minute drive down the hill just off the main Limassol-Larnaca highway there is a large Alfa-Mega supermarket and fast food outlet.

Lefkara lies inland and is a 27-minute drive from Governor’s Beach where you can also find some very good restaurants. The fishing village of Zigi is 23-minutes by car and a great choice for a fresh fish meze. The city of Larnaca lies 32 minutes’ drive to the East and Limassol 39 minutes to the West.

Book Blue Door…you won’t regret it
Posted on: 16/08/2016

We arrived in Lefkara after a 3 day stay in Nicosia. We put the meeting point suggested by Katerina ( our hosts caretaker) into our GPS. It took 45mins to reach the village. Katerina was there to greet us. Everything in the Blue Door village house was as mentioned in the Airbnb listing. Katerina was a gem. She painstakingly answered all our questions, and was kind enough to invite us to her own house for coffee, which was two doors down the road. We had traditional Cypriot coffee and Faoula cake (traditional cakes baked only at Easter time)with her husband and mother. Wonderful people……heart warming Cypriot hospitality. Their cat Boobie also came over to the house to welcome us. He stayed around for a while, to ensure, everything was purrrfect. The house has everything as mentioned. It is a self contained unit where you can cook your own meals. There are two bathrooms complete with showers (one on each floor). There is an outdoor dining table on the first floor just outside the bedrooms should you wish to dine there. We ate our breakfast at the table downstairs, leaving the famous blue door wide open (in true Cypriot style). The TV , Wifi , dishwasher and electronics were all working smoothly. The stay in the house was very peaceful and stress free. We were able to park our car on the same street as the house. The walk from the car up the street to the house is on a steep incline. I would not recommend it for the very elderly. The village itself is quite lovely with lots of shops selling the famous Lefkara lace and Silver. There is a bank with an ATM, a small grocery store which is closed on a Wednesday, a grill restaurant that serves food till 9 or 10pm and a local coffee house, all within a 5- 10 mins walk from the Blue Door. There is a large hypermarket located 15 mins by car in Skarinou. We found this very convenient to stock up the fridge and to buy toiletries. We would recommend the Blue Door house along with Pano Lefkara village to anyone looking for peace and quiet in the fresh mountain air.It was ideal for newly weds like ourselves. It also makes a great base to not only explore the nearby villages, but to explore all of Cyprus. It is very easy to connect to the main motorways; of course renting a car is a must. We explored the lovely Troodos mountains, Limasol, Paphos, Pommos, Tirillia Forest and the Agia Napa Beaches with the Blue Door as our home base. All these regions are max 2.5hrs away and less. Thank you Andriana and Katerina for making our first visit to Cyprus so stress free and memorable. We would definitely book the Blue Door again.God bless you all. For anybody out there looking to do some writing, walking, healing introspection or whatever else; book the Blue door… wont regret it.
